Zolvo: The Colombian Startup Automating Commercial Credit with AI Joins Y Combinator

Zolvo, the startup founded by Colombians Isabela Rodríguez and Tony Montes, was selected by Y Combinator for its spring 2026 batch after demonstrating within just a few weeks that its technology could transform commercial credit back-office operations with artificial intelligence.

From a Chance Encounter to Joining Y Combinator

It all began on Super Bowl Sunday in San Francisco. Isabela Rodríguez, 24 years old, had just a few seconds to get the attention of Jared Friedman, a partner at Y Combinator.

“How many people come up to this guy every day to tell him they have an idea?” Rodríguez recalls.

After a brief interaction, she emailed him that same night and got a reply. Friedman agreed to personally review her application.

Minutes before applications closed, Rodríguez and her cofounder Tony Montes submitted their application. Weeks later, they received their acceptance.

An Invisible Problem in a Multibillion-Dollar Industry

Zolvo aims to solve a structural inefficiency in the financial system: the manual management of commercial credit.

Many lenders in the United States still rely on outdated tools.

“We pay thousands of dollars for old software and also need expensive consultants,” one of its clients told Rodríguez, according to her.

Zolvo’s solution automates key processes such as:

  • Reconciling invoices with bank payments
  • Information verification
  • Collections
  • Report generation

All powered by artificial intelligence.

Montes, the company’s CTO, puts it this way: “I’m building a reconciliation engine that automatically matches invoices against bank payments, something that’s currently done manually in Excel.”

The impact is direct: the startup promises to reduce operating costs by more than 60%.

A Growing Market with Room for Innovation

Commercial credit represents a global market worth US$10.680 trillion. In the United States alone, there are more than 12.500 lenders, while software specialized in this segment has already reached US$4.300 million, with annual growth of 13,4%.

Despite the market’s size, the founders identified a key opportunity: the lack of AI-native solutions focused on servicing.

“There is no source of truth in the United States,” Rodríguez explains. “Even in Latin America, we’re further ahead thanks to electronic invoicing.”

This lack of standardization creates opportunities for fraud and costly errors, positioning Zolvo as a trusted verification layer.

From Domu to Zolvo: Prior Experience Applying AI

Domu

Before launching Zolvo, both founders were part of Domu, another Y Combinator-accelerated startup focused on debt collection with artificial intelligence agents.

During that time:

  • Montes led the technology infrastructure that supported up to 50.000 calls per day
  • Rodríguez helped the company reach US$1 million in revenue

Domu’s founders are now among Zolvo’s investors.

Rapid Growth in Just Weeks

Execution speed has been one of the decisive factors in its acceptance to Y Combinator.

In January 2026, after validating the problem with more than 30 industry players, they decided to focus entirely on the project. In just four weeks, they achieved:

  • US$6.000 in revenue
  • More than US$1.000 million in potential assets in their pipeline
“There’s a real problem, and we’re seeing it in record time,” Rodríguez says.

The Y Combinator interview, which usually lasts 10 minutes, was cut to five minutes in their case.

“They wanted to see how much we had learned in just a few weeks,” she recalls.

Technology and Product Focus

Zolvo is built on Django and integrates artificial intelligence models from OpenAI and Google Gemini, as well as tools such as Claude Code, Windsurf, and Cursor.

The current team has four people, and the company is in the process of obtaining SOC 2 certification.

Its initial customers are midsize lenders with assets between US$10 million and US$600 million, though the goal is to scale up to large financial institutions.

“In the future, banks like Goldman Sachs or JP Morgan could become clients,” Rodríguez says.

What’s Next: Funding and Expansion

By joining Y Combinator, Zolvo receives a total investment of US$500.000, structured in two parts:

  • US$125.000 for 7% of the company
  • An additional US$375.000 under an MFN-clause SAFE

It also gains access to one of the most influential networks of founders and investors in the global ecosystem.

The next step will be Demo Day, where they plan to raise additional capital. For now, however, their focus is clear.

“The only metric that matters to us is creating value for our customers,” Rodríguez emphasizes.

Zolvo joins a growing list of Colombian startups that have gone through Y Combinator over the past decade, including Rappi, Platzi, Truora, Simetrik, and Somos Internet.
