Media Capital Forum2026: Where Media and Venture Capital Converge
Media Capital Forum is coming to Mexico City to explore how visibility, community, and storytelling are redefining access to capital for LATAM startups.

Media Capital Forum will take place on 21 in May in Mexico City, bringing together ecosystem leaders to discuss what truly sets startups apart at a time when building technology is no longer the main barrier to entry.
More Capital, Fewer Rounds: The New Venture Capital Landscape
The Latin American venture capital ecosystem is showing signs of transformation. According to the Latin America Venture Capital Report 2026 by Cuantico VP and Startuplinks, investment reached US$4,126 million in 2025, representing growth of 13.8%. However, the number of rounds fell to 681, its lowest level since 2017.
This reflects a clear trend: capital is concentrating in fewer startups, but those startups have greater traction and visibility. In the words of Israel García Ballesteros, CEO of Startuplinks:
“Capital is available, but accessing it now requires more traction, more time, and a stronger narrative.”
When Building Is No Longer a Competitive Advantage
Advances in artificial intelligence are dramatically lowering the barriers to developing technology. Data from Sensor Tower, cited by AppleInsider, show that App Store review submissions grew 84% year over year in the first quarter of 2026, reaching 235,800 submissions.
At the same time, the average time needed to replicate software features fell by 98%, from 18 months in 2017 to just 2.4 weeks in 2024, according to Growth Marshal. Meanwhile, Morningstar has revised its estimated duration of competitive moats for software companies from 20 to 10 years due to the impact of AI.
The conclusion is clear: when technology development becomes a commodity, differentiation comes down to identity, trust, and brand recognition.
Community and Media for Equity as Differentiators
Community-driven growth is becoming a decisive factor. According to data from Common Room, 72% of community-influenced deals close in fewer than 90 days, compared with 42% of deals generated through traditional channels.
At the same time, the Media for Equity (M4E) model is delivering significant results: startups backed under this model have a survival rate of 87%, compared with the industry average of 10%, raise three times more capital, and reduce their customer acquisition costs by 25%.
In the region, initiatives such as Unión Bravo (TelevisaUnivisión) have deployed more than US$300 million through this model, supporting companies such as Kavak, Rappi, Ualá, Clip, Kueski, and QuintoAndar.
Visibility as a Key Factor in Attracting Investment
Media exposure is emerging as a decisive factor in access to capital. A study by 2025 published in the International Review of Financial Analysis, which analyzed more than 5,000 startups and 524 media outlets, concluded that startups with media coverage are 33% more likely to receive investment and raise 25% larger rounds.
In addition, research from Harvard Business School indicates that media coverage increases by an average of 26% after funding, and that 77% of venture capital investors actively boost the public visibility of their portfolio companies.
This phenomenon is also linked to consumer trust: 92% trust earned media, compared with just 41% who trust paid advertising, according to Nielsen. Editorial coverage thus becomes a strategic asset for startups looking to scale and raise capital.
The Media Capital Forum Agenda

The event will feature leading figures from the ecosystem, including Fernando Caralt (Espresso Matutino), Paola Villarreal (The Entrepreneur Agent), Ileana Figueroa (Pulso Capital), Elizabeth Meza (El Economista), Jorge Sanchez (Apolo), Victor Noguera (Nascent), Diego Juárez (Televisa Univisión), and Jose M.
