Costa Rica Tech Week 2026: The Event Bringing the Startup Ecosystem Together

Costa Rica Tech Week 2026 is a clear sign of how mature the country’s technology ecosystem has become, in a context where bringing stakeholders together remains one of the main challenges to sustaining its growth.

A strong ecosystem, but with connection challenges

Costa Rica has established itself as Central America’s most developed startup ecosystem and one of the region’s leading exporters of services in knowledge-intensive industries. This position reflects a sustained track record of investment in talent and education, as well as efforts to attract global companies.

However, this structural progress exists alongside a persistent limitation: the lack of integration among startups, investors, corporations, and communities, which often operate in parallel, with few opportunities for ongoing interaction.

From event to distributed platform

In this context, Costa Rica Tech Week 2026, taking place from 18 to 24 May, has emerged as a response to this fragmentation. More than a traditional event, it is designed as temporary infrastructure that helps activate connections across the ecosystem.

Its model breaks with the centralized conference format, opting instead for a distributed agenda of more than 70 activities organized by a range of stakeholders, including startups, investment funds, universities, corporations, and communities.

This approach has two key effects. On the one hand, it lowers barriers to access, since most events are free and open to the public. On the other, it decentralizes value creation, allowing each participant to design spaces tailored to their interests and networks.

Interaction and diversity as drivers of the ecosystem

The week’s agenda combines technical activities—such as panels, workshops, and meetups between investors and founders—with cultural and sporting events and networking opportunities. This variety enriches the experience and encourages informal interactions, which are often crucial to creating opportunities.

The initiative’s growth, with more than 70 events in its second edition, reflects a strategy focused on increasing the ecosystem’s density. In emerging markets, where access to capital and networks is limited, the frequency and quality of interactions become critical factors in fostering collaboration and the creation of new companies.

The challenge of continuity

Despite its impact, the main challenge remains sustaining these connections over time. A week of intense activity cannot replace the need for ongoing relationships among ecosystem stakeholders.

In this respect, the true value of initiatives such as Costa Rica Tech Week will depend on their ability to extend these interactions beyond the event and turn them into tangible outcomes, such as investment, strategic partnerships, and new ventures.

A turning point for the region

Beyond its agenda, Costa Rica Tech Week 2026 marks an important moment in the evolution of the regional ecosystem. Its existence reflects a broader transition: the shift from emerging ecosystems to more sophisticated platforms for bringing stakeholders together.

This change not only highlights Costa Rica’s progress, but also positions the country as a regional leader in building spaces that foster connection, collaboration, and growth in the startup ecosystem across Latin America.
