Certuma begins operations in Argentina after raising US$10 million in a seed round
Certuma begins operations in Argentina after raising US$10 million to expand its clinical artificial intelligence platform in Latin America.

Certuma, a clinical artificial intelligence startup founded in December 2025 in Austin, Texas, has begun operations in Argentina as part of its expansion across Latin America. The company was founded by Argentine-Spanish entrepreneur Martín Varsavsky and is entering the region after closing a US$10 million seed round led by 8VC.
The Latin American expansion is being led by Bruno Marino, who serves as Certuma’s Head of LATAM and leads the regional growth strategy.
An AI startup focused on clinical work
Certuma brings together Varsavsky’s experience in regulated medical technology and the development of artificial intelligence tools designed for healthcare professionals’ work.
Varsavsky has more than three decades of experience as a serial entrepreneur and has founded more than ten companies. These include Jazztel and Viatel in telecommunications, Goggo Network in autonomous mobility, and Prelude Fertility, Overture Life and Gameto in reproductive health.
Gameto already has an FDA-approved IND and is in Phase 3.
Certuma’s seed round was led by 8VC, a fund co-founded by Joe Lonsdale, who also co-founded Palantir with Peter Thiel.

Certuma Copilot: an assistant for doctors
At the heart of Certuma’s technology is MedCanon, its proprietary clinical reasoning engine. The technology powers Certuma Copilot, the artificial intelligence assistant developed by the company.
The tool records and organizes information during consultations, supports clinical reasoning, and automates administrative tasks that take up a significant portion of doctors’ time.
In Argentina, diagnosis and prescribing remain the exclusive responsibility of licensed physicians. For this reason, Certuma functions only as an assistant and does not make clinical decisions.
“We are not looking to replace the doctor. The final decision and signature remain with the professional. We believe AI’s value lies in expanding doctors’ capacity and giving them back time for cases where their expertise is indispensable,” said Bruno Marino, Certuma’s Head of LATAM.
A similar model is already seeing significant use in the United States. The Permanente Medical Group, part of Kaiser Permanente, documents more than 2,5 million uses of similar tools annually and savings of over 15.700 hours in medical documentation.
The opportunity for clinical AI in Latin America
Certuma’s expansion comes amid structural challenges facing the region’s healthcare systems.
The Pan American Health Organization projects a shortfall of between 600.000 and 2 million healthcare workers in Latin America by 2030.
In Argentina, the concentration of medical centers in Buenos Aires and the rise in unfilled medical residency positions are exacerbating this challenge. In this context, clinical artificial intelligence is emerging as a tool to increase healthcare teams’ operational capacity.
The global market for AI-powered clinical documentation reached US$1.230 million in 2025 and could reach US$12.780 million in 2035, with a compound annual growth rate of 26%.

Certuma advances its regulatory processes
With the US$10 million raised in its seed round, Certuma is working on two regulatory fronts simultaneously.
In the United States, the company is moving toward FDA approval, while in Argentina it is working on authorization from ANMAT.
At the same time, Certuma continues to scale its platform and strengthen its clinical infrastructure, with the goal of serving healthcare institutions in different Latin American markets.
Its arrival in Argentina thus marks the beginning of a regional expansion focused on bringing clinical artificial intelligence tools to healthcare teams, while keeping medical professionals responsible for clinical decisions.
