Belo closes $ US$14 million Series A led by Tether to accelerate its expansion in Latin America

Belo, the digital wallet founded in Buenos Aires in 2021, announced the close of a $ US$14 million Series A round led by Tether, the company behind the USDT stablecoin. The deal comes at a key moment for the company, which is looking to accelerate its regional expansion and strengthen its financial services offering for users operating across Latin American countries.

The investment also reflects growing interest in stablecoin-based solutions in markets where international transfers remain costly, slow, and poorly integrated.

A platform designed to simplify money transfers

Since its launch, Belo has developed a mobile financial app that lets users manage local currencies and digital dollars from a single account.

The startup focuses on reducing barriers to cross-border payments by automating currency exchange, peer-to-peer transfers, and international remittances. All of this runs on stablecoin-based infrastructure.

Its offering is primarily aimed at freelancers, remote workers, and migrants who need to move money between countries frequently and often face complex processes, extra costs, and poorly interoperable financial systems.

The role of stablecoins in Latin America

Belo’s strategy is unfolding as stablecoins gain prominence as an alternative for international payments and transfers.

In several markets across the region, including Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, USDT has become one of the most widely used digital assets in cryptocurrency flows. In this context, Belo aims to position itself as an accessible platform that facilitates the everyday use of this kind of financial infrastructure.

Tether strengthens its regional growth strategy

The lead investment from Tether in the round represents a strategic move for both the startup and the issuer of the world’s most widely used stablecoin.

The company continues to expand its presence in Latin America and sees Belo playing a significant role in the adoption of stablecoin-based solutions, both from the end-user perspective and at the technology infrastructure level.

The investment is part of a broader trend of growth in stablecoin-powered payment systems in emerging economies, where demand for dollar-linked instruments remains high and traditional financial infrastructure still has limitations in serving millions of people.

What’s next for Belo

With the funds raised in this round, the fintech plans to expand its operations into seven new markets and strengthen its product, engineering, and operations teams.

The company will also seek to deepen the integration of financial services, savings, and crypto tools into a unified experience for its users.

As the needs of people who live, work, or earn income across different countries continue to grow, Belo is betting on establishing itself as financial infrastructure that can support Latin America’s evolving economic dynamics and facilitate cross-border money movement.
