Institutions Supporting the Biotech Industry in Latin America

Biotechnology is playing a fundamental role in transforming multiple industries, from healthcare and food to environmental sustainability. In Latin America and around the world, a growing number of investors are recognizing biotechnology’s disruptive potential and are committed to supporting entrepreneurs seeking to revolutionize these sectors.

In the following map, we list investors and accelerators that invest in and support startups in this vertical.

Biotechnology Investors and Accelerators for Latin American Startups

  1. IndieBio. Our business is to turn scientists into entrepreneurs who can save lives and save the planet (we call this “human and planetary health”). It was not that long ago (2014) that IndieBio exploded on the scene. We were the first VC to put a $2 million biotech lab in our office. We were the first accelerator to systematically write small checks into radical ideas using biology as a technology to disrupt markets outside healthcare.
  2. Gridx. GRIDX is a science-based company builder creating and investing in startups from LATAM to the world. In the last 4 years, we have invested in and created more than 30 biotech startups, such as Beeflow, Stamm, Caspr, Microgenesis, Michroma, and more!
  3. The Ganesha Lab. The Ganesha Lab is a global biotech scale-up for science- and technology-based startups in LATAM. We aim to inspire a better understanding of culture and the responsiveness of evolving humans, connecting the worlds of science, biotech, entrepreneurs, and people.
  4. ‍Zentynel. Zentynel is a private equity fund focused on investing in early-stage startups with ties to LATAM in the biotech, foodtech, healthtech, and agrotech sectors.
  5. SF500. The fund is designed to create, fund, and develop science-based startups in Argentina and the region, with the aim of boosting the biotechnology ecosystem in Latin America.
  6. Base Capital. Base Capital Venture is a leading early-stage venture capital firm that invests in disruptive technology companies with the potential to transform industries.
